Donald Alderman was among the last of "the greatest generation" and he was proud of having served his country in the army during World War II. He was also a gifted writer and his thoughtful essays on political and cultural issues appeared in the Olean Times Herald for many years.

It is always a pleasure to visit with Don's daughter and grandson during the annual Labor Day festivities in Rushford. My thoughts are with them and with all the members of the Alderman family during this stressful period in their lives.
