Dear Kathy, Graham and I are heavy hearted in the news of Dan's death and your bereavement after such a season of difficulty. We are praying for you, and send our deepest sympathies. Though we may not have been in your immediate friends circle, we remember you and Dan with love and appreciation. You may recall that I was married to Jeff Osgood ('79), who died 31 years ago after a short but intense battle with cancer. Praying that you will know the close presence and love of Jesus in coming days.

Kathy and family:
We sorrow with you at the passing of Dan. A sweeter colleague one could not find.  Working on the same 2nd. floor of the Chamberlain Ctr. I ran into Dan quite frequently and was always blessed by his gentle spirit and kind words, words of praise and encouragement. And constantly apologizing, even when an apology was not needed. That's how self-effacing he was. He has been missed, over this long period of illness, but we rejoice that he is now with the Lord he so loved and look forward to that day when we shall be united full health, brightly smiling.
May the God of peace fill your heart with peace and gratitude for the good years you've had with Dan,
--Jean-Louis & Sandy

Kathie and the Woolsey family,
Deeply saddened by the passing of Dan, but am comforted knowing he is healed and whole again in Heaven.  Dan was a dear friend growing up together as missionary kids in Sierra Leone and then in Houghton through college.  I also know Dan was a loving husband and father, a respected professor and popular teacher, a gentle caring friend to many, and loved by all who knew him.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and family.

So saddened to hear of Dan's front-temporal degeneration and his passing.  It has been a very long time since I have seen him, but remember him as a kind and humor filled classmate.  My love and condolences to those he leaves behind.

I remember Daniel Woolsey as he volenteered many an hour at Wellspring Ministries just outside of Angelica. He was a kind and loving man. He always had a servants heart and was very easy going and kind. He was not one to look down on others and he very much loved to spend time with the children. And as can be expected he did spend alot of time reading to the children in the childrens room!

I only took one literature class with him, but I have good memories of it. He would read to us at the beginning of each class, something we really looked forward to. He was always kind, welcoming and gracious to his students.

Words seem so inadequate....    I loved Dan!  He was a wonderful, compassionate friend. He cared so much for people and I will never forget his kindness. I remember a time in our senior year of college when I was very sad. Dan spent time with me trying to cheer me up. He didn't have to and I am sure he had other things to do but he always took time for his friends. That was Dan, always caring, always gentle, always loving. We did a really stupid thing our junior year after a class picnic in Letchworth Park. A bunch of us decided to climb the railroad trestle. Dan was very nervous and was worried a train might come. A train did come! I remember standing next to him and he said "I can see the headlines tomorrow..Houghton college kids killed for being stupid." I said "Whenever I feel afraid I hold my head up high and whistle a happy tune so know will know I'm afraid" So we both started singing that song until the train passed. Yes, I loved Dan and I will miss him. Thank you Kathy for walking this difficult road with grace and perseverance.

We were privileged to have Dan as a volunteer at Wellspring Ministries until he was unable to carry out his task of supervision of our kitchen give-away room.  He was a delight to have on staff and we missed him after he was unable to continue.  Our prayers are with Dan's family.

Kathie and family:
We are so saddened to hear the news of Dan's passing.  I know how much Dan adored you all, and I can't imagine how painful the process of losing him has been.  Just as all who knew Dan remember his gentle spirit, his kind graciousness, and his love for people, I am certain that you hold on to so many beautiful memories that have--and will continue to-- carry you during this time.  We pray for the deep peace of Christ to rest on each of you as you courageously face a new season and look forward to a glorious reunion in the presence of the Lord.  Much love to you and yours.

Prior to my retirement, I was a teacher at Pioneer Middle School. It was my pleasure to work with Dan as he supervised the student teachers from Houghton. His gentle spirit and love of literature were visible as we worked together.  Prayers for all of the Woolsey family at this difficult time.

I'm sorry for all of you who are members of Dan's family.  I had the privilege of knowing him from my Houghton days, especially since Dan was one of the guys who I lived with at Bob Strimple's home.  I enjoyed Dan and it is a blessing to have known him.  Although he is with the Lord, the separation is tough.  Long ago, I remember my Mom saying, "When you cry, Jesus cries too."  And so in your case.  May you sense his comfort.  You are in my prayers.

Dear Kathy,  we are saddened to hear of Dan/s passing, getting to know him and your family during our time at Houghton was so special.  He brightened my day everytime I had the chance to talk with him.  I’ll never forget sitting along the sideline watching a Tball game in Fillmore with him and a bunch of the other parents and he made some quip about how Jesse could have possibly inherited his athletic ability from Him!!  I laughed as hard as I had in a long time.  He had a beautiful spirit and was so kind...Heaven rejoices in his homecoming...I know it is hard but be assured of our thoughts and prayers for are so special too.  God Bless!!

Dear Woolsey Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Prof. Woolsey's passing, but I am glad to know that he is finally at peace.  As a Childhood Education major at Houghton, I took several classes with Prof. Woolsey, but it was his love of literature that impacted me the most.  My favorite memories of Prof. Woolsey's classes was when he started each class with a chapter or two from a teen/YA book.  Harris and Me by Gary Paulsen was one of these books.  We never wanted him to stop reading.  I have been a school librarian for over 12 years.  Harris and Me by Gary Paulsen was one of my first purchases for my Library.  I am so thankful for Prof. Woolsey and the impact that he had on my and others students' lives.   My prayers are with you and your family.

Prof. Woolsey touched everyone he came in contact with with light and laughter and a deep love of books. When I think of the Pagemaster movie, Prof. Woolsey comes to mind. His tenderness and goodness impacted generations of Houghton students and we are better people for knowing him and paging through his libraries. He is now in the presence of the the first and only true Author now. All our love to the Woolsey family near and far.
