Rushford- We are sad to announce that Lois M. Bliss, a former resident of Rushford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in Westchester Manor Nursing Home, High Point, NC. She was born on October 14, 1930 in Oswego Ill., a daughter of the late Archie and Elfie Ward Newton. In 1948 married Donald E. Bliss who predeceased her in 2022.
Lois was a graduate of Rushford Central School.
Over Lois’s lifetime she was a homemaker and business manager for her husband’s business, Don’s Septic Service. Lois was a member of the Higgins Wesleyan Church.
Lois’s passion was helping her family. She was generous with her time and expertise in all areas of life. She was always available to offer help in any situation.
Lois bestowed upon us many gems of wisdom, including “things have a way of working out”.
The simplest of pleasures brought great joy to Lois, gardening, crafts, and visiting her grandchildren. Lois was an avid reader and had a personal library of books numbering in the hundreds. Late in life, Lois learned about computers and made her own greeting cards and was online on Facebook. Lois also enjoyed planning the annual 4th of July party that she and Don hosted for many, many years.
Lois always knew what to say in all situations and often did so with a wit and charm that was cherished by her family.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis A (Pam) Bliss or Rushford and Randall C. (Vicky) Bliss of High Point, North Carolina, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 10:00 am in White Cemetery, Rushford. Rev. Bruce Smith, pastor of the Higgins Wesleyan Church, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to either of two of Lois’ favorite causes: The Rushford Town Band or The Rushford Free Library.
