Fillmore --- Helen D. Powers of 11060 Route 19 died Friday, May 22, 2015 in her home. She was born on March 4, 1921 in Rushford, a daughter of the late Peter and Leola Balcom Powers.
She was employed with the Department of Social Services in Belmont for ten years, then taught kindergarten for 23 years. She retired from the Maryvale system in Cheektowaga in 1977.
Helen was a member of the St. Patrick’s Church and Alter Society of Belfast for many years. Later she became a member of St. Mark’s in Rushford and recently attended St. Patrick’s Church in Fillmore.
Surviving are two sisters, Pauline Powers of Fillmore, Ruth Bennett of Hope Mills, NC, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two sisters, Gertrude Heyer and Frances Miller
Family and friends may gather from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N. Genesee Street, Fillmore. The Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:30pm in the Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Church, Fillmore. Fr. Dennis JJ Mancuso will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Belfast.
