Ronald R. Bliss

July 27, 1938 — October 7, 2023

Concord, NC and a former resident of Perry

Perry --- With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ronald R. Bliss of Concord, North Carolina and a former resident of Perry. Ron passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on October 7, 2023, at the age of 85 after battling lung cancer for the second time. He was born on July 27, 1938, in Hume, a son of the late Elwin and Dorothy Bliss. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Bliss of 58 years.

After graduating from Fillmore Central School in 1957, Ron enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he proudly served from 1957-1961. A few years after he got out of the Marine Corp, he met the love of his life, Judy. They were married in 1965 and moved to Perry to raise their family. Ron graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1967. He worked at Rochester Community Savings Bank for many years. It was there where he was granted a very prestigious award for Salesman of the Year for the State of New York. After the death of their daughter Lyn in 1980, they moved to East Aurora and published a newspaper called the Buffalo Bills Weekly.

In 1986, they decided to pick up the stakes and move to North Carolina. Ron was a patriot of this country and there was no question what his political affiliation was. The American flag waves proudly in their front yard at this moment. We would open the blinds in his bedroom every morning, so he could enjoy that beautiful view. A true testament for his love of the USA. Marine Corp bumper stickers adorn their car, and an exceptionally large eagle emblem was placed on the hood as well, representing the freedoms we have today. Yes, Dad loved this country!

Ron was a past charter member of The Marine Corp League detachment of Cabarrus County. He was an avid mountain biker, he was a huge Buffalo Bill’s fan, loved ice cream and he enjoyed playing card games, especially Bridge! A bigger coffee connoisseur you will not find. Dad loved his coffee and only he could fix it properly. The coffee machine still turns on automatically in the kitchen, waiting for him to prepare the perfect cup of brew. We will continue to let it do that, because it is a wonderful reminder of him. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his beautiful family, whom he loved dearly. His smile lit up the room and we will miss that.

A special shout out goes to the Class of 1957 from Fillmore Central School...he loved you all so much!!

Ron is also survived by his daughter, Lori (Glenn) Jones and three grandchildren, Kyle (Samantha) Zandrowicz, Kaitlyn (Joey) Schoolman, and Kristin (Connor) Rowland; his sister, Gloria (Cliff) Johnston of Bolivar.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his and Judy’s daughter Lynette, who died of cancer in 1980.

Family and friends may gather from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N Genesee Street, Fillmore where a funeral service will follow at 5:00 pm. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Perry.
