Bettyelna (Waite) Chamberlain

Houghton – Bettyelna Chamberlain of 9876 Luckey Drive went to be with the Lord on January 7, 2017 at the Absolut at Houghton Nursing Home. She was born on January 25, 1929, in Alexander, a daughter of the late Arlon and Ethel Underwood Waite. In April of 1951, she married Wilbur Page Chamberlain who predeceased her in August of 1998.

Betty was a member of the Caneadea United Methodist Church for many years and retired as a kindergarten teacher from Fillmore Central School in 1984 after 20 years of service.

Betty enjoyed attending church, reading, sewing, needlework, baking, talents she lovingly shared with her granddaughters, and was very fond of her special pets.

Surviving are her children, Gary (Jackie) Chamberlain of Sandusky, Lynn (Carla) Chamberlain of Fillmore, Laurie Chamberlain of Brooksville, Florida, nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, Bob (Donna) Herget of Arcade, Hugh Chamberlain of Warsaw, four sisters-in-law, Ellen Waite of Williamsburg, VA, Virginia Chamberlain of Oneida, Linda Chamberlain of Brockport, Helen Mahoney of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents she is predeceased by a son, Bruce Chamberlain, and grandson, Justin Chamberlain, in May of 1999. She also lost many loved ones to ALS including her mother, her sister, Joyce “Joy” Herget, a brother, Arlon “Artie” Waite, as well as three nieces and a nephew.

Family and friends may gather from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Caneadea United Methodist Church where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Larry Russell will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast
