Fillmore --- Carol Klein of Fillmore passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026 in The Pines Nursing Home, Machias. She was born on February 21, 1939, in Hornell, a daughter of the late Floyd and Emily Lockwood Mehlenbacher. On September 28, 1957, she married the love of her life, Karl Klein, and together they built a life centered on family, kindness, and shared joy.
Carol was a graduate of Angelica High School and afterward become employed at Motorola, working diligently in both Arcade and Elma. Beyond her professional endeavors, Carol’s true joy was found in the simple, heartfelt connections she nurtured with those around her.
Carol had a remarkable gift for making people feel truly welcome. Whether through her intricate crafts, lively card games, or the warmth of her kitchen where she prepared comforting and delicious meals, she created an atmosphere of love and hospitality that drew people close. Her home was a sanctuary of care and generosity, and anyone who stopped by was met with genuine warmth.
Alongside her devoted husband Karl, Carol cherished their winters in St. Petersburg, Florida. These months were filled with laughter, relaxation, and the forging of deep friendships, adding chapters to a shared tapestry of joyful memories that brought light and happiness to their lives.
Faith was a cornerstone of Carol’s enduring spirit. She was a faithful member of both Angelica Methodist Church and Fillmore Wesleyan Church. Within these communities, she found not only spiritual solace but also a network of enduring friendships that sustained her strength and comfort throughout her life’s journey.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend — a gentle, steady presence whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her.
Surviving in addition to her devoted husband Karl is a son, Rick (Brenda) Klein of Fillmore; her daughters, Debbie Beardsley (Dana Arnold) of Caneadea and Patti Klein (Jim Haggerty) of Freedom. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Melissa (Josh) Therrien, Jennifer (Richard) Pangborn, Brian (Ashley) Klein, and Tasha (Doug) Monagle, and a cherished great-grandmother to Owen, Elli, Jack, Logan, and Hadley.
Carol was predeceased by her parents and her three brothers, Robert, William, and Kenneth Mehlenbacher.
Family and friends may gather from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N Genesee Street, Fillmore where a funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm. Mark Harley, pastor of the Fillmore Wesleyan Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Short Tract Cemetery, Short Tract.
