Fillmore --- Charles Albert Barnes Sr., a former resident of Fillmore, died Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, Rochester. He was born on September 6, 1943, in Buffalo, a son of the late Kenneth W. and Blanche Clouse Barnes. On September 21, 1961, in Holy Family Church, Buffalo, he married Betty Cooke who survives.
Chuck was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, with VMA-223, serving from 1960 to 1964 and achieved the rank of LCpl. During his service he was deployed to Vietnam where he was responsible for the aircraft Whiskey Popper 24. He was a former steam plant engineer at Republic Steel and a former HVAC engineer for Houghton College.
He enjoyed flying his airplane, farming, studying finance and an avid researcher of World War II history.
Chuck also enjoyed watching westerns and war movies and loved pizza parties with his family but most of all he enjoyed late night ice cream trips for any type of ice cream.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was involved with the Columban Fathers.
Surviving in addition to his wife are their children, Charles Albert (Angela) Barnes Jr. of W. Seneca, Bart Barnes of Midland, GA, Sharon (Kevin) McCarthy of Niceville, FL, Diane (Quint) Franklin of Belfast, Elizabeth Barnes of Belfast, Mary Barnes of Brockport, ten grandchildren, Amanda, Connie, Kelly, Kourtnie, Kodi, Kaylie, Andrew, Kaitlyn, Avery, Aidan, four great-grandchildren, Reagan, Mackenzie, Anna Jo, Nora and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by all of his 12 siblings, Kenneth Barnes, Evelyn Moeller, William Barnes, Robert Barnes, Rosemary Lester, Lucille Barnes, Kathleen Evans, Mary Barnes, George Barnes, Joan Chisholm, Vincent Barnes and Dolores Sullivan.
Family and friends may gather from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N Genesee Street, Fillmore where a funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon. Pastor Sam Wolcott will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fillmore with Military honors accorded by the Dee Victor Thomas Post 1155 of Fillmore.
