Short Tract --- Gerald Voss Luckey, a lifelong member of the Short Tract community, passed away on March 4, 2026, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville at the age of 104. Born on April 25, 1921, in the Town of Granger, a son of the late Norris and Lora Voss Luckey. He married Melva Worden who predeceased him on December 24, 2003.
He was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 as an Aircraft Ordinance Mechanic.
Gerald received his early education at Short Tract School until the eighth grade and graduated from Fillmore Central School in the Class of 1938. His career spanned various roles that highlighted his versatile skills and dedication to hard work. He spent 2.5 years at an aircraft factory in Buffalo, followed by 9.5 years at Foots in Nunda, where he was instrumental in making blacktop powder. He then dedicated a decade to Stekl Brothers in Fillmore, where he worked in plumbing and heating before spending 19 years at Houghton College, focusing on electrical maintenance. Gerald retired in 1987, but his entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the owner and operator of Luckey's Wood Hut.
A man of deep faith and community service, Gerald was an active member of the Short Tract United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee, Sunday school teacher, and Superintendent. He also helped with general maintenance, lawn mowing and snow removal at the church. His contributions extended beyond church, as he was also a trustee at Short Tract Cemetery and a former member of the Fillmore School Board. He played a significant role in the lives of many as a former Boy Scout Leader and Town of Granger assessor. Since 1951, he had been a member of the Dee Victor Thomas American Legion Post 1155 in Fillmore and volunteered with the Short Tract Fire Department, showcasing his commitment to community welfare.
Gerald is survived by his daughters, Sandra (Karl) Kipple of Short Tract, Sherrie (William) Frazier of Higgins, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his son, Larry Luckey, on May 5, 1967.
