Rushford --- Gilbert Elmer Hackett, 98, passed away on September 27, 2026. He was born on September 26, 1928, a son of the late Elmer and Anna Hackett.

Gilbert started driving truck, at the age of 16, for the family coal business in Woodhull, followed by a move to Rushford in 1957, to continue driving for the Keystone Trucking Company and was known as the best diesel mechanic in the area. From there, he went to Airco Industries. The conclusion of his driving career was done at WW Trucking in Florida.

After retirement he moved in with his son Langdon in Easton, PA. From there, he moved to his daughter Marceia's in Virginia, and then onto Rushford, which he considered his home, and was living with his daughter Karen, until going into the nursing home.

Surviving are his children, Langdon (Sue) Hackett, Karen (Gene) Austin, Marceia (Ron) Geist, Joseph Hackett, Justin (Julie) Hackett, Kelly (Brian) Figley and stepson Ron (Michelle) Rottstedt. Gilbert was the cherished grandfather of 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife, Cecelia, and his parents he was predeceased by a son, John Hackett, nephew Michael Geist, and great-great granddaughter Hazel Deck.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in Rushford Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:30 am in the Rushford Bible House, located at 9103 Hardys Corners Rd, Rushford.
