Hume --- Janet Marie Thomas of 10844 Claybed Road, died Saturday, August 20, 2022 at The Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Machias. She was born on April 25, 1937 in Fillmore, a daughter of the late Edmund and Frances Wheeler Gayford. On November 2, 1956, she married Donald Charles Thomas who survives.
Janet was a graduate of Fillmore Central School, class of 1955. She loved to read and was a talented seamstress with perfectionist tendencies. In recent years she has especially treasured phone calls and visits with her dearest friends, relatives, and neighbors. She was known by many for making the world’s best chocolate chip cookies.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are their children, Dennis (Carol) Thomas of Fillmore, Chele (Jim) Mills of Hume, Dan (Brenda) Thomas of Machias, Amy Thomas of Florida, Melissa (Mark) Hodnett of Hume, Katie (John) McKenzie of Freedom, son-in-law Jeff Patro, 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a brother, Jim (Carolyn) Gayford of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by granddaughter Melody Cherish, daughter, Libby Patro, grandson Zachary Patro, and sisters Judy Bentley, and Joan Dain.
Janet’s family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone at The Pines in Machias, particularly the Evergreen team, for the amazing care, compassion, and dignity given to Janet during her final months of life.
Those who knew her best will understand that at Janet’s request there will be no visitation or service. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fillmore.
