Obituary

DeRuyter --- Janice L. Keiser of DeRuyter passed away on January 1, 2026, in her home. She was born on June 19, 1936 in the Fillmore, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Virginia Lee Gaus.

Janice was a graduate of Fillmore Central School. Her career in the food service industry began early and lasted throughout her life, where her talents as a waitress eventually led her to own her cherished restaurant, Janice K's Diner, located in Hughesville, PA. The diner was not just a place to eat; it became a beloved gathering spot filled with warmth and hospitality, much like Janice herself.

Outside of her professional life, Janice had a rich tapestry of hobbies and interests. She played the saxophone with grace and was a talented majorette. Her passion for reading opened worlds of adventure and romance, while her love for Hallmark movies filled her evenings with heartwarming stories. As an excellent seamstress, she turned fabric into beautiful creations, showcasing her creativity and attention to detail.

She is survived by her children, Brenda (Scott) Vosburg, Rex (Susan) Vosburg, Jay (Tricia) Steadman, and Jo Ellen (Bill) Reish; her grandchildren, Kate (Sean) Meigs, Kyle (Natasha) Consolie, and Brett (Rachel) Vosburg along with her great-grandchildren McKenna Meigs, Sienna Meigs, and Oliver Consolie; and her siblings Keith Gaus and Connie (Jim) Walker, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Alvin Gaus.

Family and friends may gather on January 24, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N. Genesee Street, Fillmore. Joel Stroud, pastor of the Hume Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Short Tract Cemetery, Short Tract.

Memorials if desired to: Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413
