Rushford --- Joy Ann Mientkiewicz, age 65, of Rushford died on Thursday September 4th at her home. She was born on March 7, 1960, in Rome the daughter of the late Robert and Jean Cooper Ossont.
Joy graduated from SUNY Geneseo in 1982 with a degree in Education. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Steve Mientkiewicz, whom she married on April 13th, 1985. She loved children and loved teaching, especially as a substitute in the Cuba-Rushford School District.
Joy was a member of St. Patrick’s Family of Churches in Northwest Allegany County, where she served on the parish council. She also volunteered with the Rushford Area Food pantry and formerly served as an Assistant Scoutmaster in BSA Troop 744.
Joy loved God and her family, raising four children with Steve, and was blessed to see them all marry. Joy also loved being outdoors, spending many family trips camping and hiking.
She is survived by her children, their spouses, and her four grandchildren: Charlean, Jeremy, Juliette, and Mathis Clawson of Liverpool, Zebediah and Lauren Mientkiewicz of Yipislanti, MI, Zekiel, Kristin, Grant and Ethan Mientkiewicz of Ames, IA, and Zechariah Mientkiewicz and Brianna Adams of Minoa.
She is also survived by her many siblings: Robert and Sherry of Mount Morris, Charles of Greenville, WI, Guy and Nancy of Lowell, Dave and Charlene of Carmichael, CA, Dennis of Norwich, CT, Vicky Ossont of Big Moose, and Steve and Laura of Palmyra, Julie and Bob Follmeyer of Howland , OH, Pete and Tracy Mientkiewicz of Niles, OH, Edera Mientkiewicz, of Niles, OH, Greg and Colleen of Kinsman, OH, Karen and Ralph Macali of Howland, OH, Tim Mientkiewicz of Waterford, PA, David and Kathy Mientkiewicz of Kinsman OH, and Rosellen Mientkiewicz of Springfield, MO, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Joy is also survived by her aunt Christine Wilson of Camden.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Tommy Ossont and Jeff “Foot” Ossont, her sister, Charlean Ossont, her brother-in-law Patrick Mientkiewicz, as well as her sister-in-law Kathy Ossont.
Her family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and medical practitioners from Roswell Park Cancer Center, UR Oncology Center of Olean and HomeCare and Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 11:00 am in St. Patrick's (109 W. Main St.) in Fillmore. Fr. John Cullen will be celebrant. Burial will be in Westmoreland Union Cemetery, Westmoreland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Family of Churches in memory of Joy Mientkiewicz.
