Fillmore --- Leora J. Arnold of 17 Lowell Street died Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in Highland Hospital, Rochester. She was born on April 9, 1929 in Hornell, the daughter of the late Leo and Olive Newell Arnold.
Leora graduated from Fillmore Central School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Houghton College. She taught Latin and French, at Canaseraga and Letchworth Central Schools, retiring in 1980.
She loved family, traveling and animals. She spent a great deal of time with friends in Australia and England. She also traveled to Russia and The Holy Lands. Leora has had many pets including her beloved dog.
Her hobbies included reading, especially history, genealogy, collecting beanie babies and spending time at the library with her friend Joan Tavernier.
Leora was a member of the Caneadea United Methodist Church. She served on the Archives in History Committee for over 20 years.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Carol Arnold of Hume, several nieces and nephews, Laureen (Martin Howden) Arnold of Hume, Sharon (Nelson) Ramirez of Boca Raton, FL, Claire (Donald) Meyers of Portageville, Dana (Debbie) Arnold of Caneadea, Mark (Lisa) Arnold of Connecticut, Laura (Max) Tait of Hammondsport, Ronald (Pam) Arnold of Missouri and Jon (Eileen) Arnold of Tonawanda.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two brothers, Clair and Laverne Arnold.
Family and friends may gather on Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N Genesee Street, Fillmore where a funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fillmore.
