Marian Elizabeth (Tellier) Gilbert

Rushford --- Marian Elizabeth Gilbert of Rochester and a former resident of Rushford died on Sunday, December 20, 2015 in Crest Manor Living and Rehab Center, Pittsford. She was born on December 28, 1923 in Marion, a daughter of the late Leon and Emmaline Tellier, Marian married Wilson Litchard Gilbert on April 12, 1947, and became a dairy farmer’s wife on the Gilbert Family Farm, which was established in 1867 in Rushford.

Prior to moving to Rushford she graduated from Marion High School and Business School. She attended Cornell University where she met the love of her life, Wilson.

Marian approached everything in her life with passion and enthusiasm. She was an avid reader and served as President of the Rushford Free Library Association and served on the board of the Southern Tier Library Association. She was a faithful member of the Rushford United Methodist Church, where she was an Adult Sunday School Teacher, served on Church Council as Secretary and Treasurer, joyously sang with the Church Choir, faithfully decorated the church each Easter and Christmas with flower orders and worked on church dinners. She served on the Board of Elections for Rushford and was a member of the local Cynthian Club. Marian was active in Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron.

In their retirement years Marian and Wilson enjoyed travel throughout the US, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Marian also was instrumental in maintaining the family genealogy linking history from Wales and England to the United States and organizing family reunions.

Surviving are her three children Edward (Jane) Gilbert of Rushford, Audrey (Michael) Gavin of Victor, Donald (Carol) Gilbert of East Earl, PA, she cherished her 10 grandchildren and delighted in her 15 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her brother Stanley and his wife Pat.

Family and friends may gather from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on December 23, 2015 at Rushford United Methodist Church where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Larry Russell will officiate. Burial will be at the White Cemetery, Rushford.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made in her memory to: Rushford Free Library or Rushford United Methodist Church.
