Centerville --- Marvin L. Vosburg of Centerville went to be with the lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in Olean General Hospital at the age of 86. He was born January 24, 1938, in Fillmore, a son of the late Samuel K. and Myrtle Wilday Vosburg. On May 2, 1958, in Hume he married Arlene Fiegl who survives.
He grew up on a farm in Centerville. It was there that he developed a lifelong affinity for farming. Whether he was raising livestock, tapping trees to produce maple syrup for the family business, or later on in life, supporting his sons’ dairy farming operations, farming was more than just an occupation or a hobby, it was a way of life.
In the late 1960s, Marvin began working as an Operating Engineer. He belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 17 for over 40 years. During his career he worked at Robinson, Long, & Siller for 27 years, before retiring in 1996.
Retirement meant more time to support the ones he loved. He continued to operate the backhoe on the Vosburg family farms, right up through his last week of life. Summers led to time spent mowing, raking, or baling hay. They also meant time for camping trips and truck rides with the kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The autumn season left time for hunting adventures and trips to the woods as a family to gather wood for the winter. He loved his family and showed it daily with his do-anything-for-anybody actions.
He also cared deeply about his community, serving as a member of the Centerville Memorial Fire Department, of which he was a past chief and member for over 50 years. He was a member of the Centerville Hill Riders Snowmobile Club and was an instrumental member of expanding the trail system in the town.
Surviving in addition to his wife are their children; Amy (Gerald) Thompson of Batavia, Bruce (Jody) Vosburg of Caneadea, Penny (Troy) Stekl of Lancaster, Michael (Barbara) Vosburg of Centerville; his grandchildren: Sara (Eric) Geitner, Anna (Emil) Petti, Adam (Tanya) Thompson, Andrew (Sarah) Vosburg, Colin Vosburg, Alison (Nathan) Mitchell, Ryan Stekl, Morgan Stekl, Jarrett (Lindsey) Vosburg, Haley (Kyle) Hinman; his siblings: Vernon (late Norma) Vosburg, Marlene (Roger) Beil, and sister-in-law Mildred Vosburg. He is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Brian Lee Vosburg, and brother, Stephen Vosburg.
Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 5:00 to 8: 00 pm at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 North Genesee Street, Fillmore, and on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Centerville United Methodist Church, 11017 County Road 36, Centerville, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.
