Wiscoy --- Norma Jeanne Irwin of 11659 County Road 27 passed away Monday, May 12, 2025, after an eventful life and a strong will to leave on her own terms in Wyoming County Community Hospital SNF, Warsaw. She was born on July 19, 1927, in Wiscoy, the only daughter of the late Balfour and Lenora Green Mills. On April 1, 1951, in Wiscoy she married Kenneth Thomas Irwin who predeceased her on January 2, 2019.
Jeanne was a graduate of Fillmore Central School, class of 1944. After high school she became a licensed cosmetologist and enjoyed that career on and off throughout her life.
She was a faithful member of the Order of the Easter Star since 1967 where she held many offices including Associate Grand Warden in 1996 and Grand Color Bearer in 1997. She held membership in the American Legion Auxiliary, Dee Victor Thomas Post 1155 of Fillmore since 1988 and a member of the 8 and 40 where she held many offices.
Jeanne loved raising quarter horses. She and Ken were devoted to breeding and showing quality stock. She was very involved in the Sunset Riders 4H Club and her knowledge helped many young riders. For over 24 years Jeanne was the clerk for HP Byer Auctions.
Her greatest joy was to play games with and reading stories to her nieces, nephews grand and great-grandchildren. Jeanne enjoyed golf, knitting, card making, was an avid reader of the history of The Civil War and Native Americans. She was the “Go to Person” for local history.
Surviving are her daughters, Julie and Barbara, brothers Alan (Judy) Mills, R. Craig Mills, grandchildren, Jenn Frazier Smith, Stacey Irwin, Kenneth Frazier, Jamie Irwin, Danielle Irwin McCoy, Marleah Irwin Stout, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her brothers, Bernard Mills, Lowell Mills Sr., Stewart Mills, a son, Robert Irwin, sisters-in-law, Louise Y. Mills, Monica Mills, Roberta Mills Pomeroy, nephews Ronald Mills, Thomas Mills and nieces, Lynn Mills VanScoter and Lydia Mills.
Per Jeanne’s wishes there will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held in Alger Cemetery where she will be interred next to her beloved Ken.
