Raymond L. Crouch

Caneadea --- Raymond L. Crouch of Caneadea passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024 in his home, following a long illness. He was born April 19, 1941, in Fillmore, a son of the late Lindsley B. and Lois Estabrook Crouch. On May 25, 1968, in the Caneadea United Methodist Church, he married the former Rita M. Hale who survives.

Ray was a graduate of Fillmore Central School and following his service in the Army, 1963-1965, worked as an auto body mechanic at Mike Fish’s Garage, was a driver for Winchip Oil and worked at Gee’s Minnow Trap. In 1974, Ray took a job as a custodian at Belfast Central School which he retired from in 2001.

Ray was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed taking trips and outings with his family, and applying his skills and energy in taking care of the family home. He was a faithful, active member of the Caneadea United Methodist Church, freely giving of his time to support the life and upkeep of the church. An avid Nature lover, Ray enjoyed hiking and identifying and watching birds. Upon retirement, he volunteered for over ten years helping the NYSDEC stock fish in the Genesee and in Vandermark Creek every spring.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are his children, Kevin L. Crouch, Carolyn M. (Frank) Robinson, Benjamin J. (Courtney Heilman) Crouch, granddaughter, Samantha DuPree, his brother LeRoy D. (Lila) Crouch, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by daughter-in-law, Jennifer R. Crouch.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 2:00 pm in Caneadea United Methodist Church. Rev. Frank Robinson and Rev. Marilyn Hale will co-officiate.

Memorials if desired may be made to the Caneadea United Methodist Church or the Belfast Rescue Squad.
