Ruth Tucker
Houghton---Ruth Tucker of 9737 Genesee St., died Saturday, December 28, 2013 in Wyoming County Community Hospital, Warsaw. She was born on April 16, 1929 in Washington, DC, a daughter of the late William and Mary Neff Parry. She married Alfred J. Tucker who predeceased her on Nov. 17, 1986.
She was a member of the Houghton Wesleyan Church and it’s Wednesday morning women’s Bible study. As an accomplished seamstress, she also volunteered for all the sewing and mending needs for all the residents at the nursing home in Houghton. For more than 40 years, she served the senior citizens monthly luncheons as well as being in charge of the funeral dinners.
Surviving are a son, Frank (Mandy) Tucker of Bonney Lake, Washington, four daughters, Sylvia (Thomas) Christopher of Greensboro, NC., Sharon (Allen) Abra of Tacoma, Washington, Susan (Donald) Peraino of Mount Morris, Sandy O’Guinn of Sikeston, MO, thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew and a brother-in-law, Warren Byerly of Houghton. Through the years, Al and Ruth “adopted” many “sons” and “daughters” among them, Roy and Sandy Bielewicz of Allen, N.Y.
Family and friends may gather from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home 21 N. Genesee Street, Fillmore. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 10:00 am in the Houghton Wesleyan Church. Rev. Dr. Wesley Oden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Houghton.
