Thomas Alan “Tommy” Carey went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 10, 2026, at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born on October 10, 1955, at Long Island Jewish Hospital in Jamaica, New York, the son of Mr. Shirley and Mary Carey.
Tommy’s early years were shaped by a strong connection to his birthplace in Jamaica, where he spent his childhood before relocating at the age of 12 to Houghton, New York. From there, he embraced a new chapter, graduating from Fillmore Central School. His life’s travels eventually settled him in Wellsville, NY, after years living in Olean, weaving together the threads of experiences.
For many, Tommy was the familiar laid-back presence behind the wheel, a taxi and delivery driver whose interactions were always sprinkled with warmth and an easygoing spirit. Yet beyond his vocation, Tommy’s soul resonated with the strum of guitar strings and the soulful lyrics he penned, a testament to his talents as a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. His love for music spanned broad genres, reflecting an eclectic and sensitive ear.
Adventure thrummed in his veins—evidenced by his remarkable journey riding a bicycle all the way to Chicago. This feat was but a glimpse into his passion for motorcycling and bicycling, pursuits that gave him a sense of freedom and connection to the world around him. Photography was yet another lens through which he captured life’s moments; his keen sensitivity illuminated by the images he crafted.
A compassionate heart within Tommy, he cherished the companionship of his beloved cats, he devoted time volunteering at local SPCAs. His faith was a cornerstone of his existence, marked by his baptism at Bethel Gospel Tabernacle in Jamaica, New York.
He is survived by his mother Mary Carey, sisters Beverly Carey and Tamara Carey Plummer, and his son Jasmine Antrum alongside Jasmine’s mother, Valerie Jones. His extended family includes nephew Amar Plummer, niece Asia Davis, grandnephew Amar Jr., and grandnieces Aria and Mecca, a whole bunch of cousins and friends whom he embraced him with warmth.
He was preceded in death by, his son, LeAndre Tomas Carey; his father, Mr. Shirley Carey; and his wife, Carol Carey.
A funeral service will be held on April 25, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N Genesee Street, Fillmore.
