Centerville---Virginia Ivia Hatch, a former resident of Centerville, died Friday, December 5, 2014 in the Absolut at Houghton nursing home. She was born on December 11, 1921 in Java, a daughter of the late Edward and Fanny Hicks Covert. On November 16, 1940 in Higgins, she married Milford M. “Sharky” Hatch who predeceased her on June 9, 1996.
She was a former employee of the Perry Knitting Mill in Fillmore and Motorola in Arcade. She lived most of her life in Centerville where they owned and operated a small dairy farm for many years. She loved to can, play bingo, do needlepoint and crafts.
Surviving are her children, Karen (Dan) White of Freedom, Phyllis (Dan) Renik of Delevan, eight grandchildren, Jackie Kazmark, Mike Kazmark, Terry Kazmark, Sherrie Baroni, Scott Voss, Robert Voss, Richard Pangborn, Rodney Pangborn, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Norma Brustowicz on May 9, 1996, and her siblings, Arlean Bean, Ken Covert, Shirley Bennett, Ard Covert, Ed Covert, Ray Covert and Bob Covert.
Family and friends may gather at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home 21 N. Genesee Street, Fillmore, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 on Friday, December 12, 2014 where funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Bruce Smith, pastor of the Higgins Wesleyan Church will officiate. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery, Freedom.
