Wilda K. (Kellogg) Williams

Rushford --- Wilda K. Williams of 9455 Podonque Road died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 21, 2015 in Cuba Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 27, 1923 in Georgetown, a daughter of the late Laurence and Goldie Truman Kellogg.  On May 27, 1944 in Georgetown she married Arthur D. Williams who predeceased her in 1996.

Wilda arrived in Rushford in 1943. She was a graduate of Ithaca College and was employed to teach both vocal and instrumental music from grade K-12. Wilda taught vocal music until her retirement in 1976 at the Rushford Central School. She conducted the Rushford Town Band for many years and after retiring from conducting, she continued to perform with the band in the percussion sections until she was 87.

Wilda received the State Grand Musician award from the Eastern Star. She was a past officer in the Allegany County Federation of Women’s Club and was also active in the Cynthian Club of Rushford and Rushford Grange. Her most recent contributions to the community have been participation in the Rushford Bicentennial Committee to produce Volume II Spirt of Rushford. Ms. Williams was a member of the Rushford Labor Day Committee in the planning for the Labor Day celebration in Rushford.

Surviving are her children, Robert (Ginna) Williams of Akron, Daniel (Anne) Williams of Rushford, Gail (Larry Combs) Williams of Evanston, IL, eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a brother, Truman Kellogg.

Family and friends may gather from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015 and Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N. Genesee Street, Fillmore where a funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Kevin Austin, Assistant Pastor at Houghton Wesleyan Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Podonque Cemetery, Rushford.
