Irene Joyce (Carmer) Hennard

CANEADEA – Irene Joyce Carmer Hennard, 84, of Caneadea, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 4, 2023.   Born August 1, 1938 in the Town of Allen, a daughter of the late Albert and Gladys Bell Byron Carmer and was the youngest of seven children. 

Irene grew up in Allen and graduated from Fillmore Central School in 1956.

On September 1, 1956 she married her lifelong love, Eugene L. Hennard.  Living primarily in the Fillmore area, together they worked side by side as business partners operating the Fillmore Mill and providing a loving home for their three children. Precious memories too numerous to count were made when they opened their home to host many family celebration gatherings or to play a spirited game of cards with beloved friends. 

Irene loved spending time with her family and was always a source of loving support and encouragement to all of them.  She loved reading, and although she preferred the feel of a book in her hands, in recent years she also enjoyed learning new technology and using a Kindle.  She also enjoyed having great grandchildren, Gavin and Noah, read stories to her and Grandpa through the portal.  Irene enjoyed many different types of crafting, sewing, as well as crocheting many beautiful and treasured blankets for her family. 

She will be sorely missed by all those who loved her dearly, her beloved husband of 66 years, Eugene L. Hennard, her three children, Michael (Boni) Hennard, Linda Cygan, and Jeffrey (Kathy Moriarty) Hennard, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Irene was predeceased by her parents and siblings Pearl Patterson, Dorothy Gelser, Lloyd Carmer, Betty Howell, Ella Lockwood, and Glenn Carmer.

A private burial will be held in Short Tract Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in her honor to the Fillmore Wide Awake Club Library or to Gideon Bible International.
