Fillmore --- Jonathan Ashton Baldwin of 4795 Klein Road took his own life on Friday, May 5, 2023. He was born on July 30, 1969 in Gainesville, Florida, a son of David and Sandra Stiles Baldwin.
JB was a professional disc golfer and world champion. He won over 80 tournaments with the most notable being the 2011 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championship at his home disc golf course, DeLaveaga in Santa Cruz. He was also very proud to have been selected by his peers to receive the Bob West Memorial Sportsmanship award in 2013 and was often referred to as “Gentleman Jon”.
Jon was an avid photographer of nature, where he saw beauty and peace everywhere. His favorite subjects included ocean waves and the sandy beaches, the fog blanketing fields and forests, the majesty of the sky and the beautiful shapes to be found in the grains of wood. And not to forget the beauty of the disc golf courses he played on. His pictures will forever decorate our homes and our hearts.
Jon struggled with depression his entire adult life, and yet made a lasting impact on so many lives. As L. Frank Baum wrote in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz about the Tin Man, “A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others.”
Surviving in addition to his mother are his sisters, Jen (Mark) Lang and Becky (Bert) Fernandez, nieces and nephews Rachel Thissell, Colleen Lang (Joshua Weidel), Alec and Eric Fernandez, Michelle (Colin) Ballard, and Michael Lang, many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as a huge community of disc golf friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, his father, David Baldwin and beloved cousin Laurie.
A funeral service will be held at Fairport United Methodist Church, 31 West Church Street, Fairport on Sunday May 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
