Geneseo --- Laverne A. James of 4632 Lima Road and a former resident of Dalton went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 23, 2021 in Highland Hospital, Rochester. He was born on July 13, 1929 in Short Tract, a son of the late Lynn and Margaret Irish James. He married Philis Hark who predeceased him on October 25, 2005.
Vern was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1947 to 1951, a former machine operator for General Motors in Rochester and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Geneseo.
He enjoyed mowing his lawn and tinkering with his lawn mower, hunting, fishing, working with children’s ministries at church but most of all he loved his family. He had the gift of encouragement and impacted many lives!
Surviving are his children, Michele (Mike) Smith of Mt. Morris, Marlin (Mary Beth) James of Geneseo, Melissa (Dave) Schraft of Geneseo, seven grandchildren, Trina (Alex) Ulbright, Chanae Smith, Katie (Michael) Garcia, Starrlita (Joshua) McCarthey, Trey Smith, Cameron Smith, River Schraft, four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Jameson, Piper Ulbright, Felicity Garcia, his brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may gather from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 and from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 4232 Reservoir Rd, Geneseo where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Pastor John Zatkiewicz will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Dalton.
