Mary Jane McCumiskey Obituary

Belfast --- Mary Jane McCumiskey of 69 Sherman Street passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022 in Wyoming County Community Hospital, Warsaw. She was born on June 17, 1942 in Olean, a daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Swift Mountain. On November 10, 1962 in St. Mark’s Church in Rushford she married Patrick John McCumiskey Sr. who predeceased her.

Mary Jane was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Belfast, the Belfast Fire Department Auxiliary, the Belfast American Legion Auxiliary and a former Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She was an LPN for 52 years and a former employee of Cuba Hospital.

She loved her family immensely especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and would host many holiday celebrations of which St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving and Halloween where her favorites. She enjoyed preparing meals for her sons and grandsons during deer season and cooking for her neighbors and friends.

Mary Jane also enjoyed sewing and she used to enjoy playing the piano and dancing. Mary Jane had a kind heart and a knack for making everyone feel special.  

Surviving are her children, Patrick J McCumiskey II of Belfast, Joseph (Maureen) McCumiskey of Belfast, Ann (Jeffrey) Guilford of Belfast, Mary (Ron) Paulsen of Fillmore, Tim McCumiskey of Angelica, Matthew (Nora) McCumiskey of Fillmore, Peter (Tiffany) McCumiskey of Rushford, a special niece, Celia Mountain of Angelica, 30 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, her brothers, James (Mary) Mountain of Belfast, Robert Mountain of Bolivar, William (BettyJo) Mountain of Summerfield, FL, two sisters in law, Sharon Mountain of Portville, Marge Mountain of Cuba, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by two daughters, Alice McCumiskey and Colleen McCumiskey, a grandson, Nicholas McCumiskey, three brothers, Donald Mountain, Thomas Mountain and David Mountain; and a sister, Jeanne Mountain.

Family and friends may gather from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 and from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N Genesee Street, Fillmore. A Rosary service will be recited at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 11:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church, Belfast. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Belfast.
