Hunt --- Melvin “Mel” K. Sonnleitner of 5317 Sonnleitner Road passed away on October 29, 2021 in his family’s home. He was born on November 5, 1939 in Nunda, a son of the late Oliver and Violet Wilcox Sonnleitner.
Mel was a graduate of Fillmore Central School, class of 1957, and after he graduated he worked several odd jobs until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1959. After his retirement Mel joined the Fillmore Cub Scouts in 1995 as a Den Leader for his son Stephen’s group and soon became Cub Master for the Scouts. This is something Mel would become extremely passionate about in helping young men become good role models for society. Mel touched many lives during his career as Cub Master. He was on the committee for the Boy Scout Troop as well and he was instrumental in helping many boys earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
Mel was an active member of the American Legion for over 36 years. There is no doubt that Mel will be missed by many in the community.
