Hume --- Pauline A. Powers, a former resident of Hume, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 in the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility, Warsaw. She was born on July 14, 1925 on the family farm on Pinewoods Road in Rushford, a daughter of the late Peter and Leola Balcom Powers.
Pauline attended the district school in Houghton and later graduated from Fillmore Central School, class of 1943. She was the Houghton Postmaster for 38 years until her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of NAPUS (National Association of Postmasters of the United States), a member St. Patrick’s Church in Belfast as well as their Altar Society. Pauline also was Vice President of the Parish Council. Later she transferred to St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Rushford and then St. Patrick’s Church in Fillmore.
Surviving are her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by four sisters, Ruth Bennett, Gertrude Heyer, Helen Powers and Frances Miller and three brothers-in-law, Richard Heyer, Hank Miller and Mel Bennett.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 in St. Patrick’s Church, Belfast at 11:00 am. Fr. Dennis JJ Mancuso will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Belfast.
