Hume --- Richard “Dick” Michael Kennedy of 11414 Lapp Road went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 7, 2023 in his home. He was born on December 23, 1928 in Fairmont, WV, a son of the late William Michael and Mary Hession Kennedy.
Dick was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1952 to 1956, a retired music teacher for Fillmore Central School and a founder, manager and treasurer of the Allegany County Schools Federal Credit Union from its inception until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Fillmore and a board member of Holy Cross Cemetery Association, a member of Warsaw Barber Shoppers, Amherst Male Glee Club and Genesee Valley Chorus.
In the last few years of his life Dick was lovingly cared for in his home by family, neighbors and friends, including Joyce Speicher, Teresa Hubbard, Carol Getty Franklin, Tracey Parks, Donna Barber, Janet Potter, and Sarah Powers.
Surviving are his children, Mary Clare (John) Jeavons of Farmingdale, NY, James P. (Hairong) Kennedy of Dayton, OH, David E. Kennedy of Fillmore, William M. Kennedy of Fillmore, Thomas M. Kennedy of Katy, TX, five grandchildren, three sisters, Maureen Wolfe of Fairmont, WV, Peggy Mauney of St. Petersburg, FL, Barbara Rojas of Los Angeles, CA and many nieces and nephews. Dick was especially fond of his large, extended family and its many reunions.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his former wife, Jeanette Hodnett Kennedy Djelidi and four sisters, Mary Anne, Martha, Clare and Nancy.
Family and friends may gather from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N Genesee Street, Fillmore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 11:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church, Fillmore. Fr. Dennis JJ Mancuso will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fillmore.
