Short Tract --- Robert H. VanOstrand, a former resident of Short Tract, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 26, 2022 in Rochester. He was born on December 29, 1929 in Kenmore, a son of the late Harley and Christabel Judson VanOstrand. For 60 years he was married to Judith Scanlon who survives.
Robert was a graduate of Fillmore Central School and later enlisted with the United States Air Force serving from 1950 to 1954. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 412 of Chili and the American Legion with the Dee Victor Thomas Post 1155 of Fillmore.
He was involved in the boy scouts for 75 years and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, a member of the former Friends in Christ United Methodist Church, The Greenway Trail, Adirondack Mountain Club and former Deacon, Elder and treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church of Chili.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to white water canoe and camp as well as being a conservationist.
Surviving in addition to his wife are their children, Andrew VanOstrand of Fillmore, Cynthia Blair of Chili, James VanOstrand of Waterloo, Anne (Tony) Matela of Spencerport, his grandchildren, Jesse, Heather, Jennie and Anthony, a cousin, Herbert Judson and a nieces, Beth Anne.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Helen Tallman-Braithewaite and two infants.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 2:00 pm in Short Tract Cemetery. Craig Buelow will officiate. Military Honors accorded by the Dee Victor Thomas Post 1155 of Fillmore. A Celebration of Life will be held at Chili Presbyterian Church and will be announced.
Memorials if desired to: Boy Scouts Seneca Waterway Council or a veteran’s charity of the donor’s choice.
